What area of the industry do you specialise in?

I specialise in bridal, asian bridal, beauty, photography, special occasion and day/ evening make up.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

I love how transforming make up can be. More than anything I love how amazing I can make someone feel by enhancing the beauty that already exists within them. I love my clients reactions and the confidence that instantly radiates from them when they look in the mirror! I truly believe if you love what you do you will never work a day in your life.

What advice do you have for someone looking to enter the industry as a hair and make-up artist?

What you put in is what you will get out. Stay focused and consistently polish up on your skills whether it means taking on another course or teaching yourself. Practice is key. If you’re serious about gaining a career in this industry then don’t give up.

What has been your career highlight to date and why?

My career highlight was to be given the opportunity to work alongside celebrity fashion stylist Gok Wan at his fashion shows. This was quite early on in my career and it’s an experience I will never forget.

How did you get into make-up artistry?

Growing up I was always quite creative as my mum is a tailor and I spent many years watching her and imitating her on the sewing machine. Whilst she was making clothes for people I would make clothes for my dolls and teddies.

It was 2006 and I had just finished my A Levels. I now had one of the hardest decisions to make at that time... deciding what university I wanted to go to but most importantly what I was going to study for 3 more years.

At this point I had the realisation that I didn't want to continue with fashion designing as I began to get bored of it. One evening I sat down with my dad and had a serious talk about what I should do. There was me expecting him to tell me to go into law, psychology or become a doctor but to my surprise he said 'why don't you go into make up... you always seem to be doing your own'. at that point it made sense and so I began searching for universities that did a degree in make up.

After searching and being accepted to a number of universities I decided to accept an offer at the university of Bedfordshire.

I studied there for 3 years. The course was intense and covered all types of hair, make up, special effects, fashion designing, media, catwalk, airbrushing, TV/ film and much more. It was one of the best decisions I made.

What do you love about teaching the MASA & Bridal courses here at LSBM? Why is LSBM the place to study as an artist?

I love teaching here as I get to meet many students from all walks of life, eager to learn and pick my brain! I love teaching the bridal courses as it’s one of my specialised areas and I love sharing my knowledge. LSBM offer great courses which are tailored to different learning levels. The classes are small and intimate which allow you to take in as much information without many distractions as opposed to a large group of learners. Students are also taught by incredible tutors. The school offer so many courses and you are bound to find one that fits around your lifestyle. The courses are also great value for money.

During my time studying, I've had really inspiring, motivating teachers and I thought I would like to do that. I came to LSBM because of its excellent reputation and commitment to students.

What are your top 5 products and why?
  • I love 24 Hour Eye Base by Mac Cosmetics. It’s a extremely long wearing primer which keeps your eye make up in place all day.
  • Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray is also one of my favourites. I never really used to believe in setting sprays but this one is a game changer when it comes to keeping your make up in place.
  • Smashbox Photofinish Primer. I love this product because it preps your skin with a silky smooth film ready for your foundation.
  • Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeliner. I love this liner as it stays put and is extremely long wearing. It’s perfect for clients attending an all day event.
  • Mac Lip Primer. I love this product as it helps to keep lipstick on longer as well as conditioning the lip. I love this product paired with Mac Pro long wear lip pencil. I usually colour the whole lip in with the pencil and apply a lipstick on top.
