SHORT AND HOME STUDY COURSES – INTRODUCTION TO OPEN LEARNING PROGRAMMES
If you’re looking to undertake a foundation make-up course but are unable to attend a full-time or part-time course, then our flexible learning programme is the perfect option for you. Our 2-day Foundation in Make-up course includes practical demonstrations and workshops, as well as the opportunity to practice your new skills on your fellow students. We will also provide you with comprehensive course notes and clear instructions on how to complete your required portfolio, prior to coming back to the School to undertake your final theory and practical assessments.
Once you have embarked on your home study course, you will also benefit from the full support and guidance from one of the most renowned and established beauty schools in the country. Our Education and Artistry Team will be on hand to answer any queries you have relating to the course and our expert tutors will provide assistance to ensure you achieve your recognised qualification.
Our home study make-up course is ideal for the self-motivated student who can work to their own initiative. By choosing our intensive programme, you will be working towards a recognised industry qualification provided by VTCT (Vocational Training Charitable Trust), the largest awarding body offering NVQ (Level 2) qualifications in the country. You will be able to obtain a working license and insurance cover, permitting you to pursue a lucrative career in the industry you love.
HOW IT WORKS
APPLY
Simply select your desired course dates and complete the on-line application form. Once your payment has been made, you will receive a confirmation letter and enrolment details in the post.
ATTEND OUR NVQ MAKE UP OPEN LEARNING COURSE
You will then be required to attend our intensive 2 day course on your chosen date. During your course you will receive course notes and your Lecturer will talk you through any theory work that is required for your course. This will be followed by a practical demonstration of the treatment procedure, as well as the opportunity to have hands-on experience by practising on your fellow students. You will be given a VTCT portfolio assessment book, which you will be required to complete and submit for Internal Verification, prior to your qualification being applied for.
ASSESSMENTS
Following your course, you will be asked to complete an on-going programme of home theory study using the course materials provided. You will also be expected to undertake written and practical assignments, which once perfected will be formally assessed by a Lecturer on a scheduled day under observation at the school.
QUALIFICATION
After the course, if fully completed you will receive your VTCT NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) Certificate and Lifelong Registration Card and will be ready to begin your new career.
HOW TO QUALIFY
After you have attended your course at the school, you’ll have time to gain proficiency and confidence in your new skill by completing a programme of home theory study and practical treatments on your own clients, recorded using forms and course materials that we will provide. Each practical should be completed in a commercial time frame and represent a realistic treatment under suitable conditions- for this, we recommend you ask 5 to 10 friends and family members to practice on and support your work with ‘before and after’ photos. Once you feel ready and after completing your home training programme and any written and practical assignments required, you should contact the school to arrange a date to take your final assessments. A practical observation of your treatment will be performed on 3 different clients. You will be responsible for bringing in 3 models, the school is unable to provide clients for your final assessment, which will be undertaken in the morning* and a written assessment undertaken in the afternoon. These will be conducted by an Assessor at the school on a date which has been set for Open Learning Assessments. Should you fail either part of your assessment, you will be required to return to the school on the next available date, after additional study and practice at home to resit your assessment. Finally, once all your assessments are completed you will be asked to submit your portfolio for verification. This can be posted by recorded delivery or submitted in person and will be verified by our Internal Assessor and a VTCT External Verifier. Your NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) certificate will then be issued and sent to the college for collection, after which you will be fully qualified in your chosen module, allowing you to offer the treatment commercially and begin your new career.
* (Due to possible cross-contamination, make-up students will be required to use a kit provided by the school.)
COSTS
The cost of your practical and theory assessment will be included in the course fee, however, any subsequent assessments that may be required will be charged separately and should be paid in advance at £30 per assessment. You will be permitted to take up to three assessments within the daily rate, provided they are of different subjects.
