Here we share with you all you need to know about make-up courses in London, including the types of courses available at the London School of Beauty & Make-up, the qualifications you can study for, and how much you can expect to invest to achieve a diploma as a make-up artist and other qualifications.

What Make-up Qualifications can I study at LSBM?

If you are considering studying make-up courses in London, LSBM offers the Make-up Art Standard Authority (MASA) qualifications, endorsed by the Hair and Beauty Industry Authority (Habia). These qualifications are specially created to guide the learner fluidly from concept to reality.

Working with MASA, LSBM has devised a three-stage approach to complete training in Fashion and Beauty Make-up. This begins with the Award, the Diploma and the Advanced Diploma, all accreditations ideal for those who are serious about starting a career in professional make-up artistry.

Each unique module is composed of intricate elements of visualisation, design and practical skills. Diploma in make-up and beauty students can enrol on the prestigious 12-week MASA Advanced Diploma, or alternatively study each stage separately as standalone units, enhancing their previously attained knowledge and skills step by step.

Successful completion of all three make-up course assessments and the achievement of the Advanced Diploma in Make-up will provide an excellent grounding, together with all the necessary practical and interpersonal skills required to pursue a career in the make-up industry, whether that is as a professional make-up artist, working in the arts, or entering the corporate world of big name brands.

What is MASA?

The Make-up Art Standards Authority (MASA) is an awarding body recognised by Habia. It provides the best possible standards and practices in make-up artistry education, for those interested in becoming a successful professional make-up artist.

MASA executives have decades worth of industry knowledge under their belts and have worked hard to collaborate this knowledge into what they believe are the best make-up courses in London and beyond for starting a career in make-up artistry.

What is the difference between MASA and other industry qualifications?

When it comes to MASA and LSBM make-up courses, London and UK-wide students can consider them the ultimate programmes for those wishing to enter the arenas of fashion, media, bridal or freelance make-up artistry.

Skills in bridal, creative fashion, beauty, photographic, media make-up, hair styling and advanced nail art all form part of the make-up courses. London wide, our courses equip students with the knowledge, technical knowhow and confidence to enter this exciting industry, whilst meeting employer expectations and educational guidelines.

Focusing on make-up artistry as an art form and taught by industry leaders and certified educators, our make-up courses in London go beyond the classroom, bringing the industry to you via celebrity master classes, research outings and professional photo shoots.

Our MASA Make-up Artistry courses focus on the detail of shape, colour and texture in relation to make-up design from past to present. In addition to technique, industry knowledge and personal development, we pride ourselves on preparing you for the industry courtesy of networking events and extensive portfolio development.

What’s more, our support does not stop after you have graduated and achieved your diploma. Make-up artist alumni of the school have the opportunity to gain invaluable work experience through the renowned LSBM Events Team. Alumni are also able to take advantage of our fantastic affiliation with the Artistry Network, an online portfolio sharing platform where you can view the latest jobs and assisting opportunities, whilst also receive helpful business advice.

Does The London School of Beauty & Make-up help me build my portfolio?

Photo shoots with a professional model and photographer are provided within the MASA courses at diploma level and upwards. These shoots provide each student with the opportunity to start building their portfolio to showcase their work and skills.

One to one sessions with the head of make-up to discuss long term ambitions and career aspirations are incorporated into the courses as standard. LSBM also offers each successful diploma in make-up graduate the opportunity to join our prestigious and highly sought after Events Team, providing further opportunities to work at industry related events, shows and shoots.

How do MASA make-up course assessments work?

Each student enrolled in a MASA Make-up Artistry course is continually assessed via ongoing lecturer assessments and set portfolio work. This all culminates in a practical make-up exam for the MASA Award & Diploma.

What are my job prospects once I have achieved a diploma as a make-up artist?

As a highly respected school of excellence, LSBM is regularly approached by industry leaders and well-known brands who are seeking the skills of qualified make-up artists and therapists. The school receives numerous job placement requests each year, all of which are cascaded to our graduate alumni.

Where are LSBM graduate alumni working now?

Having gained their diploma, make-up artist graduates have gone on to work as freelancers in the diverse sectors of TV and film, bridal, theatre, catwalk, fashion, editorial, music, retail and corporate cosmetic houses, as well as in the fields of teaching and training, both here in the UK and overseas.

What is the LSBM Events Team?

We encourage all LSBM Alumni to join our renowned Events Team on completion of their make-up open learning course. Having gained valuable industry experience in the disciplines of make-up artistry and beauty therapy, our Events Team has worked on numerous high-level projects since it was established in 2012.

The LSBM Events Team not only makes it possible for you to develop your portfolio and CV, but it also provides excellent networking opportunities at prestigious City events, and first-hand experience in the fields of corporate, fashion, retail and freelance industry related work. Joining the Events Team is not mandatory. However, it is advisable as part of your development as a new make-up artist or beauty therapist.

Membership of the LSBM Events Team can fit in around your work commitments, and you need only attend the jobs that interest you. Often, team members have made industry contacts, leading to paid roles.
