Sophie’s journey into the world of laser and IPL treatments was a dream long in the making. Enrolling in the Level 4 Laser & IPL course in 2022 proved to be a transformative experience for her.
Reflecting on her time at LSBM, Sophie describes it as incredible.

She emphasises how approachable and attentive her tutor was and how it was made sure students performed treatments to the highest standard and attention to detail – every aspect of her education exceeded her expectations.

But how did her journey begin?

Sophie worked as a Dental Nurse prior to COVID. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic presented Sophie with a unique opportunity to further expand her skill set. She started studying a variety of Beauty and Aesthetics courses covering microneedling, dermaplaning, and skin booster injectables. The more she learned, the more she realised the potential to enhance her services and cater to a wider range of client needs.

She always wanted to learn Laser and IPL treatments and when her friend, who worked in the field decided to change career paths and sell her laser machine, Sophie took it as a sign. She purchased the machine from her friend and became Lynton registered.

She then chose LSBM to provide her with the training. She says: “Laser training was a great decision for me, it has broadened my treatment list and allows me to add to the business in the future, as I’m not just trained in hair removal but skin rejuvenation and thread vein removal too”.

Today, Sophie finds so much fulfilment in her work. While she offers a variety of treatments, she says that laser procedures are the most popular among the variety of treatments she offers.

She states: “My clients are always so happy with the results. Spending so much time with them allows me to get to know them really well and build great connections. I also love the flexibility of being my own boss”.

The joy of witnessing her clients’ satisfaction and building lasting connections with them reaffirms her decision to embark on this path.

As she continues to thrive in her role as a business owner, Sophie is grateful for the solid foundation laid by her professional training. Armed with confidence and expertise, she meets the challenges of entrepreneurship with ease, enjoying the freedom of deciding her schedule, holidays and locations where she wants to work.

Congratulations to Sophie for making her dream come true with her hard work and dedication!

As a facialist, your passion lies in helping clients achieve radiant, healthy skin. But beyond mastering your craft, gaining and keeping loyalty among your clients is essential for long-term success in the competitive skincare industry.

Building lasting relationships with clients goes beyond delivering exceptional treatments—it requires a personalized approach, effective communication, and a commitment to providing the best experiences.
This guide will give an overview of how to gain and nurture client loyalty, which will result in repeated business, positive word of mouth and essentially – more new clients.

In the pursuit of gaining loyal clients as a facialist, it’s crucial to offer personalised consultations. Take the time to thoroughly understand each client’s skin concerns, lifestyle factors, and skincare goals. By tailoring your facial treatments and product recommendations to their specific needs, you demonstrate your commitment to addressing their unique concerns.

Exceptional service delivery is very important when fostering loyalty among clients. Continue improving your skills and stay updated with the latest advancements in facial treatments to consistently deliver high-quality services that give visible results. Pay close attention to every aspect of the client’s experience, from the cleanliness of your treatment room to the comfort of the treatment bed, creating a welcoming atmosphere that enhances overall satisfaction.

Effective communication is key to building trust and rapport with clients. Practice active listening during consultations, allowing clients to express their concerns and preferences without interruption. Use simple, jargon-free language to explain the purpose and benefits of each treatment, ensuring that clients feel confident and informed about the process.

Building trust through expertise requires continuous education and transparency. Stay abreast of the latest developments in skincare technology, ingredients, and techniques, and share your knowledge with clients to establish yourself as a credible authority in the field. Be transparent about the limitations of certain treatments and products, managing client expectations realistically.

Creating relaxing experiences is essential for cultivating client loyalty. Curate a soothing ambience in your spa or salon with elements such as soft lighting, calming music, and aromatherapy scents. Ensure that your treatment room is equipped with comfortable furnishings and amenities, prioritizing client comfort throughout the entire treatment process.

Follow-up and support are critical for maintaining client satisfaction and loyalty. Reach out to clients after their facial treatments to inquire about their satisfaction and address any concerns they may have. Provide personalized recommendations for at-home skincare maintenance to prolong the benefits of the treatment, and make yourself readily available for post-treatment support.

Rewarding loyalty can further incentivise clients to return to your business. Implement a loyalty program that rewards clients for their repeat business with incentives such as discounts, free treatments, or exclusive access to new products or services. Tailor rewards based on each client’s preferences and spending habits, making them feel valued and appreciated for their loyalty.

Seeking feedback and continuous improvement are essential for refining your services and maintaining client satisfaction. Conduct periodic client surveys to gather feedback on their experiences and satisfaction levels, using this information to identify areas for improvement. Demonstrate a commitment to excellence by actively seeking out opportunities for professional development and refinement of your skills, striving to exceed client expectations with every interaction.

In conclusion, by implementing these strategies and prioritising the needs and preferences of your clients, you can cultivate a loyal clientele base as a facialist. Remember, building lasting relationships requires dedication, authenticity, and a genuine passion for helping clients achieve their skincare goals.

If you have a Level 2 qualification in Beauty Therapy or Facials and Skincare, you already have a fundamental understanding of beauty and facial treatments. You have learnt about the anatomy and physiology, theory of the skin, manicure and pedicure, waxing and so on.

Level 3 builds on from Level 2 knowledge and enhances your opportunities within the Beauty and Aesthetics industry. Studying Level 3 will increase your knowledge and give you new skills. It will also increase your earning potential and employability.

Below we will discuss how these two levels differ and explain why it is a good idea to get Level 3 qualified.

Differences Between Level 2 and Level 3:

Depth of Knowledge:

Level 2 qualifications often cover fundamental concepts and skills. They provide basic knowledge of treatments, products, and client care.

Level 3 qualifications are more advanced and go deeper into theory, techniques, and practical skills. They may cover topics such as advanced skincare, body treatments, electrical treatments, and more in-depth client consultation and assessment.

Practical Skills:

Level 2 qualifications focus on developing essential practical skills such as manual facials, manicures, pedicures, and waxing.

Level 3 qualifications build upon these skills and may include more advanced treatments like electrical face and body treatments and advanced massage techniques.

Theory and Understanding:

Level 2 qualifications introduce learners to foundational theory, including anatomy and physiology, health and safety, and basic product knowledge.

Level 3 qualifications require a deeper understanding of anatomy and physiology, skin biology, and the science behind beauty treatments. Learners may also study topics like nutrition, dermatology, and advanced skincare ingredients.

Client Management:

Level 2 qualifications teach basic client communication and consultation skills.

Level 3 qualifications focus on developing advanced client management skills, including conducting in-depth consultations, analyzing skin conditions, developing personalised treatment plans, and managing client expectations.

Regulatory Requirements:

Level 2 qualifications typically meet the basic regulatory requirements for entry-level roles in the beauty industry.

Level 3 qualifications may be required for more specialized roles or to meet higher regulatory standards, depending on the jurisdiction.

Employment:

Level 2 qualification will provide you with great opportunities if you want to work in salons or even for yourself.

Level 3 will enhance those opportunities and make you more attractive to employers, who are looking for specialists who know how to perform a variety of treatments. It will also positively contribute if you want to open your own business and offer various treatments to your clients.

Overall, Level 3 qualifications are designed for individuals who wish to pursue more advanced career paths in beauty therapy, such as becoming salon managers, advanced beauty therapists, or skincare specialists. They offer a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of both theory and practical skills compared to Level 2 qualifications.

As per above, there are some great differences between the two levels. If you are someone who already decided to study Level 3, these are the benefits you can enjoy upon the completion of your course:

Advanced Career Paths: Level 3 qualifications open doors to more advanced career paths within the beauty industry. This can include roles such as senior beauty therapist, salon manager, skin care specialist, spa therapist, or even opportunities in medical aesthetics with further training.

Specialisation: Level 3 qualifications often allow for specialisation in specific areas of beauty therapy, such as advanced skin care treatments, holistic therapies, or medical aesthetics. This specialisation can lead to niche career opportunities and higher earning potential.

Employability: Employers in the beauty industry often prefer candidates with higher qualifications, as Level 3 qualifications demonstrate a deeper understanding of beauty therapy principles, advanced techniques, and client management skills. This can increase your employability and competitiveness in the job market.

Entrepreneurship: With a Level 3 qualification, individuals may have the knowledge and skills needed to start their own beauty businesses, whether it’s a salon, spa, mobile beauty service, or consultancy. Advanced qualifications can provide the confidence and expertise required to successfully run a beauty business.

Continued Education: Level 3 qualifications can serve as a foundation for further education and professional development. Graduates may choose to pursue additional certifications, diplomas, or even degree programs in related fields such as dermatology, cosmetology, or business management.

Recognition and Accreditation: In some regions, Level 3 qualifications may be recognised and accredited by industry bodies or regulatory authorities. This recognition can enhance your credibility as a beauty professional and may be necessary for certain roles or to comply with legal requirements.

Overall, Level 3 qualifications significantly broaden career opportunities within the beauty industry by providing advanced skills, knowledge, and accreditation, enabling individuals to pursue more specialised roles, higher-level positions, and entrepreneurial ventures.

Our graduate, Nur, completed her studies in 2019, achieving Level 2 & 3 qualifications along with a Level 4 certification in Laser & IPL Treatments. Specialising in laser treatments, she has since dedicated her career to the Aesthetics industry.

Nur’s expertise focuses on various laser applications such as skin pigmentation, skin tightening, and radio frequency treatments. She currently thrives as a self-employed specialist at an Aesthetics clinic located in Oxford Circus.

We’ve asked her to share some insights into the industry and talk about her experience.

Why Did You Choose to Specialise in Laser?

There are so many laser machines in the market. Be it for hair removal, pigmentation, skin resurfacing, tightening and so on. I’m very interested in working with various machines and trying their different settings. It’s so fascinating to see what different results they can offer and how they can improve skin condition and texture. It gives me so much joy to share this with my clients and see them satisfied with the results.

Which Treatment Is the Most Popular Amongst Your Clients and Which One Is Your Personal Favorite?

The most popular treatments among my clients are:

Fotona 4D – a groundbreaking non-surgical face-lifting procedure resulting in a rejuvenated, natural-looking appearance
Hydrafacial and PicoSure – it delivers ultra-short pulses of energy in picoseconds (trillionths of a second), which helps break down the targeted pigment or stimulate collagen production without causing significant damage to the surrounding skin
Sofwave – non-invasive skin tightening treatment that uses ultrasound technology to stimulate collagen production and improve skin elasticity
M22 IPL – effective in treating acne by targeting the bacteria responsible for acne breakouts and reducing inflammation

My personal would be Hydrafacial and M22. This combination is excellent for skin rejuvenation and acne skin. How does it work? The skin is deeply cleansed with hydrafacial which is then followed by M22 a few days later. It treats your skin with different wavelengths. The results have been incredible for my clients!

I also love Sofwave and Fotona 4D – these treatments are perfect for clients who are not yet ready for injectibles.

Why Did You Decide To Become Self-Employed And What Do You Love About It?

Flexibility played a vital role in my decision to become self-employed. Working three days a week allows me to spend more time at home as a mother of a two-year-old. Operating across two different clinics in central London provides the freedom to diversify my professional experiences. Overall, the career offers an excellent work-life balance.

What Would You Say To Those Who Are Considering Studying Laser?

I highly encourage it! The Aesthetics industry is rapidly expanding, presenting numerous opportunities that continue to grow with the introduction of new machines. Studying laser treatments is not only rewarding but also fun.

Tell Us About Your Experience At LSBM, Including Your Tutor.

My experience at LSBM was exceptional. Trainer Ellie, who guided us and shared her extensive experiences, was incredibly detailed. The opportunity to practice treatments before graduation was also invaluable.

What Are Your Future Goals?

I’m hoping to increase my client base even more, and offer private aesthetic services at a good price!

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and insights! LSBM is so proud of what Nur has achieved and we know she’ll go so far with her ambition and determination!

Social media is effective for advertising businesses for several reasons, making it a powerful tool for marketing and promotion. It has a large and diverse audience, with billions of active users worldwide, providing access to a vast and diverse audience. This allows businesses to reach potential customers from various demographics and locations.

That being said, social media platforms provide an opportunity to interact with that audience. People who like your content can follow, comment, like, save and message your business, which allows you to build an engaged community. It also makes it easier for people to find your business and book an appointment with you, if you are, for example, a beauty therapist.

One of the most important things making social media so attractive is cost-effectiveness. It is a lot cheaper to advertise on social media platforms than on traditional advertising channels. Businesses can choose their budget, target specific demographics, and analyze the performance of their ads through analytics tools.

Seeing the benefits of online advertising encourages businesses to be a part of it. But how to effectively show your business to your audience, what are the best strategies? We will discuss it below.

Although obvious, it is very important to choose the right platforms to be on. You have to think where your audience is at – i.e. Identify the social media platforms that align with your target audience. Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok are popular choices for beauty businesses due to their visual focus. These platforms will help you showcase your business in the best way possible.

You can film videos about your business, and treatments, give advice on there and even film yourself so clients can better familiarise themselves with you!

That being said, creating consistent brand aesthetics is another important thing that needs to be considered. When focusing on visuals, think about brand image. Develop a cohesive and visually appealing brand aesthetic. Use consistent colours, fonts, and imagery to create a recognizable and professional brand image.

Invest in high-quality images and videos showcasing your products or services. Visual content is crucial in the beauty industry, so ensure your posts are visually appealing.

After creating appealing content, don’t forget to write an engaging caption and use the right hashtags. Researching and using relevant and popular hashtags will increase the discoverability of your content. You can also create branded hashtags to encourage user-generated content!

Consistency is very important when it comes to posting. The more you post, the more algorithm will favour and push your content, and the more views and engagement you will receive. However, each platform has an optimal post number as posting too much can influence algorithm in a negative way!

Don’t forget there are various scheduling tools that can help you with consistency. You can schedule and get them to post content for you. Our favourite ones are Sendible and Later.

When it comes to posting ideas, always look at what’s trending. We do not recommend copying, but using trending ideas to show your own personality and business identity. You can participate in challenges or trends relevant to the beauty industry. This can increase your visibility and engagement.

Content Ideas for the Beauty Business Industry

These are some ideas that are performing well in the industry and that we’d encourage you to try yourself.

Run Contests and Giveaways:

Organize contests and giveaways to encourage user participation and increase brand visibility. Ask participants to share your content or tag friends to enter.

Educational Content:

Share educational content such as beauty tips, tutorials, and treatment/product demonstrations. Position your brand as an authority in the beauty industry.

Customer Testimonials and Reviews:

Encourage customers to share their experiences with your treatments. User-generated content, including testimonials and reviews, can build trust among potential customers.

Live Streaming:

Utilize live streaming features on platforms like Instagram and Facebook to connect with your audience in real time. You can host Q&A sessions or behind-the-scenes events.

Paid Advertising:

Consider running paid advertising campaigns to reach a larger audience. Social media platforms offer targeted advertising options to ensure your content reaches the right demographics.

To see how these ideas are working, use Analytics. Analytics is super important because it will allow you to see which content is performing well and analyse what can be improved. Some ideas will work well which means you should be creating more of that while others won’t. It will show you the best time to post, how your hashtags are performing etc. Analytics can usually be accessed on every social media platform. Make sure to always check it after each post!

In conclusion, there are many strategies that can be used to advertise your business. One thing is clear though, you should utilise social media as much as you can. The good thing is that creating social media content is a lot of fun! Head to @lsbmlondon on Instagram to see ours and make sure to follow!

In winter, the skin requires special attention due to the harsh weather conditions. The cold air tends to be drying, leading to issues such as dryness and flakiness. To combat these challenges, it’s important to adopt a winter skincare routine.

Start by using a gentle, hydrating cleanser to clean your face. Avoid harsh cleansers that can strip away natural oils. Immediately after washing your face or showering, apply a rich, emollient moisturiser to lock in moisture. Adequate hydration is crucial, so drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Don’t forget to protect your skin from UV rays, even in winter. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 on exposed skin. Exfoliate your skin, but be gentle, especially if it’s already dry. Consider using a mild exfoliator once or twice a week.

Indoor heating systems can contribute to dry skin by drying out the air. Use a humidifier to add moisture to the air in your home or office. Protect your hands and lips with a rich hand cream and a good lip balm to prevent chapping.

Choose skincare products with added hydration. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides. When showering, use lukewarm water instead of hot water, as hot water can strip the skin of its natural oils.

In extremely cold and windy conditions, wear protective clothing such as scarves and hats to shield your skin. Regular exercise improves blood circulation, benefiting the skin. After exercising, shower and moisturise promptly.

Maintain a balanced diet rich in vitamins and antioxidants. Foods like fruits, vegetables, and nuts contribute to healthy skin from the inside. If you have specific skin concerns, consider consulting with a dermatologist for personalised advice.

What Skincare Treatments You Should Consider In Winter Timer?

In winter, the skin often needs extra care due to the cold and dry weather. Here are some treatments that can be beneficial for maintaining healthy skin during the winter months:

Hydrating Facials:

Consider facials that focus on hydration, such as hydrating masks and treatments. These can replenish moisture and revitalise the skin.

Chemical Peels:

Chemical peels can help to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover, addressing issues like dullness and dry patches. However, it’s essential to choose a peel that is suitable for your skin type and concerns.

Hydrating Masks:

Use hydrating masks at home to provide an extra boost of moisture. Look for masks with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, or glycerin.

Laser Treatments for Pigmentation:

Winter can be a good time for laser treatments targeting pigmentation issues. These treatments are often less effective when there is a lot of sun exposure, making winter an ideal season for them.

Microdermabrasion:

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive exfoliation technique that can improve skin texture and tone by removing dead skin cells. It’s a good option for addressing dry and flaky skin.

LED Light Therapy:

LED light therapy can help stimulate collagen production and improve overall skin texture. It’s a non-invasive treatment that can be beneficial for various skin concerns.

Exfoliating Scrubs:

Use gentle exfoliating scrubs to remove dead skin cells and promote a smoother complexion. Be cautious not to over-exfoliate, as this can lead to irritation.

Hot Oil Massages:

Consider incorporating hot oil massages into your skincare routine. Oils like jojoba, argan, or coconut can provide deep hydration and nourishment to the skin.

Humidifier Use:

While not a traditional skincare treatment, using a humidifier in your living space can add moisture to the air, benefiting your skin.

Topical Hydration:

Invest in high-quality, hydrating skincare products. Look for moisturisers and serums with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, shea butter, and ceramides.

Remember that individual skin needs can vary, so it’s important to tailor your skincare routine to your specific concerns and skin type. Additionally, if you have any skin conditions or concerns, it’s advisable to consult with a dermatologist for personalised advice and treatment recommendations.

At LSBM, we have multiple students graduating every year. Each of them chooses a path that’s most suited to them. Some choose to work in clinics and salons, and some open their own businesses. It is extremely nice to hear that choosing to work in Beauty and Aesthetics allows them to do what they love and gives them a great work-life balance.

We are always interested to speak to our graduates and learn what they decide to do after graduation.

We are excited to share a story about Natalia, who, after moving to the UK from Ukraine, successfully graduated from Level 2&3 Combined Facials and Skincare at LSBM, and then decided to carry on with her studies, choosing to study Level 4 Laser & IPL Treatments with us.

She graduated this year, holding VTCT Level 2 Facial Massage & Skincare, VTCT Level 3 Facial Electrotherapy, VTCT Level 3 Anatomy & Physiology, VTCT Level 4 Laser, IPL and Skin Rejuvenation qualifications under her belt.

We decided to ask her more questions about her journey and where she sees herself in the future.

Natalia

Why did you decide to study Level 2&3 Combined Facials and Skincare and Level 4 Laser & IPL Treatments?

I really love cosmetology – it’s my passion. I also wanted to know how our bodies and muscles work in more detail, that’s why I decided to study these courses.

Why did you choose LSBM and what did you think of your tutors?

My school is the best of the best. After reading a lot about it, I had no doubts about choosing LSBM.

I liked that the school was very supportive, everything was very accessible, you have a real team there:

My teacher Belgin (Level 2&3 Combined Facials and Skincare) provided so much support, she explained everything so clearly, and I turned to her more than once, if I didn’t understand something, she would stay to work with me after class.

I also completed the course with the teacher Ellie (Level 4 Laser & IPL Treatments) – she is one of the best teachers. She was very supportive.

Moreover, I felt the absolute support from the entire LSBM team. They’re like a family that helps you so much and gives you the knowledge to become the ultimate professional in your field. The administrator Sana was also very supportive and organised.

What are you doing now career-wise? And why did you choose this path?

I chose this path a long time ago. I am from Ukraine, Kiev where I had my own salon – Le Paradise Group, which was a very successful business. We worked with hardware cosmetology (which implies a set of physiotherapeutic methods, which is used in modern cosmetology). Hence, in London, I simply continued my passion for cosmetology. What I love the most is working with problematic skin, as I can see direct results on my clients.

Now I work as a self-employed professional. I keep developing in this area to become even better.

What’s the best part of your job?

The variety of work. I love that every day presents me with different challenges. This means that I have an opportunity to gain an understanding of the industry and develop my problem-solving and organizational skills.

Also in my job, I get to see the direct results of my efforts, which is incredibly rewarding. Witnessing the positive impact of my work on clients or customers is fulfilling. More importantly, I appreciate the work-life balance that my job offers. It allows me to pursue my passions outside of work and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

What are the difficulties of your job?

I wouldn’t say there are any difficulties, apart from when the client wants a very quick result when in cosmetology, sometimes, more time and regularity are needed.

How do you acquire clients for your business?

My clients mostly come by recommendations, but I also see social networks working really well.

What are your future business goals?

I have a dream of opening a beauty studio where every woman will find the right treatment for herself, whether that would be a massage or hardware cosmetology treatment. I want to provide the best service so all my clients are happy with the result because a woman who takes care of herself and goes to a cosmetologist becomes more confident in herself.
