EMMA’S STORYSpa Therapist - Mandarin Oriental Hotel & Spa London
Graduate Class of July 2016 - CIBTAC & CIDESCO Beauty Therapy Diploma and Spa Programme
After deciding on a career change from business to beauty, Emma chose to kick off her new adventure at the LSBM and graduated with a CIDESCO International Beauty Therapy Diploma & SPA Programme the following year.
Emma says of that time, "It was a really hard and scary decision to quit my full-time job and go back to studying full time, but looking back it was the best decision I’ve ever made. The course was amazing and I knew straight away that the beauty industry was right for me."
Passing her CIBTAC Diploma that summer, she found a paid job as a beauty therapist whilst completing her CIDESCO diploma studies. Taking on salon work helped Emma to figure out which direction she wanted to go in and so, after graduation, she landed a top job at the world-renowned five star rated Mandarin Oriental Group.
Emma says, "I love meeting new people every day and I think it’s an honour and privilege to have a job where you have the power to make somebody's day and make them feel better. I’m always learning from my team around me and developing new skills, and I think in this industry you are constantly learning new things and you have to be open to change and development."
One of the benefits of working with an international hotel group is the fact they have properties all across the globe, and Emma will have the opportunity to fulfill both her career ambitions and travel dreams to some of the most exotic and exclusive locations in the world, whilst getting paid for it!
"I feel that LSBM is such a great place to train and sets you up really well for a career in the beauty industry. My teacher Juanita was amazing and I found her to be a really inspirational person to learn from. I also really valued the time you spend in the student salon because it gives you a great experience of what it’s like working in a real salon. It also teaches you to be prepared for anything and everything, which is what it’s like in the real world!"
