MAKE-UP SUCCESS STORY:

Well done to @gandhi_ishita who has moved on in her journey from being one of our makeup students to becoming an amazing and talented makeup artist for Bollywood Magazine!

Read about her journey below:

“A girl’s play zone mostly revolves around barbies and dressing up like a doll, so was mine when I was 16. I’ve loved everything to do with makeup for as long as I can remember. So when I was in high school, I would do full applications for my family and friends occasionally. So, I wanted to learn more to enhance my skills.

Then I started searching for good make-up schools on the internet and I found the best school, The London School of Beauty and Make-up. There I realised what make-up was all about. They taught me the perfect techniques of make-up that I never knew. After completing the MASA, 12 weeks course. I returned back to my country.

I approached some founders of #Bollywood magazines and they loved my work and gave me an opportunity to work for the celebrity for the cover shoot of a magazine. And that was when people started approaching me for celebrity shoots. Now, a lot of people started contacting me to learn make-up from me after seeing my work… it all happened because of LSBM I’m so thankful”

CIDESCO is a major international beauty therapy association. The Comité International d’Esthétique et de Cosmétologie was founded in 1946 in Brussels and was established to hold the highest standards in beauty and spa therapy professions.

CIBTAC stands for The Confederation of International Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology. The educational organisation was founded in 1977 and is regulated as an awarding organisation by OFQUAL, a UK government agency and was constructed to develop the highest level of excellence in the profession.

Obtaining the CIDESCO qualification enables you to be able to work in 41 countries and obtaining the CIBTAC qualification enables you to work in 30 countries as they are well renowned and internationally recognised certificates.

So, for those whose feet are itching to get out of the country and have their sights set on relocating abroad finding employment won’t be a worry. Not to mention, it works well on the flipside with international students who want to study abroad in London and return home at a later point.

You can easily migrate to different countries and not have the fear of your career being in jeopardy unlike other careers where you may be restricted to working in the country where you earned your qualification.

At London School of Beauty and Makeup, we offer the best launching pad into becoming a beauty therapist if you take our VTCT Level 2 Beauty Therapy Diploma course that can be studied full time, part time or on weekends (depending on the intake of the current season) which encompasses the key starter pack with modules in facials and skincare, waxing, lash and brow treatments, manicures and pedicures.

SHINE A LIGHT ON A CAREER IN ADVANCED BEAUTY

Laser therapy in hair removal and skin rejuvenation is one of the more glaringly obvious routes developing in the beauty industry. And many are choosing to do a laser training course and bring their newly acquired skills to already suffering clients of beauty therapy treatments such as waxing & invasive facials. In the form of becoming a Laser Hair Removal technician or Laser Skin treatment specialist. How to start and finish the path to laser therapy? Read on to see what a fully accredited Laser Course can do for you and your future. More importantly how London School of Beauty and Makeup’s Level 4 Laser Course can be the course to help get your career in laser therapy started. Answering why, how and what next?

No more will skin be subjected to disguised tortures like waxing and epilators or the latest new miracle cream (with technologies apparently, making it sounds like half these creams have the ability to reprogram your skin) that doesn’t do quite what it promised to do, even if 75% of women found it did that thing that wouldn’t do that thing for your skin.

Instead, there is a much more sophisticated way of helping clients today. Laser hair removal is an industry that is only set to increase in replacing already mentioned waxing and shaving as well. Laser hair removal offers the opportunity to find a permanent solution which gives means when hair is gone with laser it is GONE. No more factoring in a leg shave or waxing into your routine for going out or away. Just a few treatments with laser and zap (couldn’t resist, sorry) it is all gone. Laser skin rejuvenation helps in cosmetic treatments with visible results that will give the client confidence and an ability to truly shine with clear blemish free skin. No more cover-ups or subtle attention to other details to draw attention away.

1. WHY STUDY A LEVEL 4 LASER HAIR REMOVAL COURSE:

As with anything so technologically based the success is determined by the advancements and offerings that each new rendition can offer. Think about the mobile phone. When those wonderful bricks came out in the 80’s I don’t think anyone really fancied lugging around one of those, especially since it couldn’t even call that far. Now you’re probably reading this very article on your lovely fit in your handphone!

Well, that’s the same for Laser treatment, 2019 has brought along many advancements for Laser Therapy. In the last few years, laser therapy has “gotten there” as it were. The machines are state of the art and extremely diverse in their offerings. Offering Skin Rejuvenation, Laser Hair Removal, Tattoo Removal, Medical treatments such as mole removals, eye treatments etc. The future of Laser therapy has only begun.

The industry is set to see further growth into the billions. On a scale that is “global hair removal devices market size is expected to reach USD 3.4 billion by 2025”. This is for hair removal alone with laser therapy being used in many other areas this only tells a partial snippet of what is to come overall.

2. WHERE TO GET STARTED:

Well, do a Laser Therapy Course! You don’t think you need this, do you? That there must be some quick easy way to get insured and out there taking your share of the market?

As of mid-late 2018 laser therapy has started to become heavily regulated and many laser technicians qualifications are being brought into question. This is due to many salons and many laser technicians practising their craft but not really knowing what they’re doing. Inevitably this has led to burns and incidents with clients that could have been avoided through proper complete training. With that comes the need for proper training and a need for a good quality provider of this training. London School of Beauty and Makeup offers this training in the form of the Level 4 laser & IPL course.

The Level 4 Laser course is set up as the course for the total beginner introducing you to laser hair removal and laser skin rejuvenation. From the theory of the course, how to use the machines, best practice, consideration of the client and overall advice for entering the industry to seek employment or opening your own business you will leave knowing your trade and knowing your route into Laser Therapy.

But we won’t just say “come to us” as it were with no explanation. Read on further to see some of the things London School of Beauty and Make-Up offers that you may want to consider if you are looking for a Laser Therapy course in hair removal or Skin rejuvenation:

3. THE QUALIFICATION

In studying the VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Laser and Intense Pulse Light (IPL) you will have an advanced qualification that has been specially designed for beauty therapists or medical specialists who would like to become a qualified laser aesthetic technician. At the London School of beauty and makeup, you will be completely insurable and employable when you enter into the industry upon completion of the course. That is because our Laser courses are government regulated by Ofqual. Who are in charge of deeming what qualification gets the RQF standard on their qualification. RQF stands for Regulated Qualification Framework, think of it as quality control that when a qualification or course has this then you can have peace of mind that the course is rigorous and 100% fit for purpose.

VTCT is the awarding beauty body and course provider and provides some of the best beauty courses that are available. This also has the added benefit of giving you the chance to move internationally as a nationally verified qualification is more than acceptable in other countries around the world. In fact, VTCT qualifications are present in a number of countries with mainland Europe being the most obvious example.

In gaining the Level 4 Laser Qualification you may need to look into acquiring a Level 3 Beauty qualification however in order to practice as a Laser Technician. This is due to the fact that elements such as Anatomy & Physiology as well as proper skin care are taught at this level. Maybe you’re now thinking this may all be too much?

Well, if knowing what is happening to the client as your doing your laser treatments is something you may not need to think again! Unless you want to go about burning them or even worse permanently scarring them! We offer the Level 3 beauty course at LSBM also and can also provide advice on doing a fast track course if your ambition is to get going as soon as you can.

4. WHAT IS THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION LIKE?

The qualification is practically assessed meaning that the form of testing is in performing the treatments in front of the tutor. Being able to do the various treatments in a safe manner with best practice. As well as this there is a folder to work from which will hold the notes and materials required to learn and look back on over in the future or between classes.

The course is on for 7 weeks and gives the opportunity for those working to attend on a part-time basis. So if you’re already working and can’t get time off or have family commitments or maybe even you live quite a distance away we have you covered.

We also may just add that we’ve been open for 24 years since 1995 (and counting)

With that, we would like to think we know a thing or two about how to teach and how to prepare our students for the industry on the basis of industry demands & expectations for Laser Technicians. We never compromise on quality and it has what has kept students coming through our doors for years and for many more years to come!

5. THE TUTOR

One of the most essential parts of any course, if not the most important. Is the tutor in any way experienced? Do they have the necessary skills or required knowledge to be teaching? The London School Of Beauty and Makeup has the above in abundance and then some. While there are many great tutors to teach laser therapy there are those that should not be in a position to teach. With such machinery, the need for an experienced hand coupled with a depth of knowledge is essential. Our tutors are very experienced and knowledgeable providing each student with their wisdom and knowledge in enthusiastic abundance.

Like anything in learning you will learn off those more easily when they’re passionate and care. Rest assured we do with our Laser Tutors industry experience and continuing to professional practice.

The class sizes are small too. With a maximum of 6 students allowed into one class. We could take on more but why not? Well, the class size is perfect for one v one attention between student and tutor. It also means more practice for you also as you will have time to make the inevitable mistakes, learn and then finally thrive knowing why you’re doing, what you’re doing and how to execute the treatments in the right way.

6. THE TECHNOLOGY

The technology you will be using is the most important part of any Laser Course. Is it of a high-end quality? Will it be a similar machine that you will be using in the industry?

No need to worry we have this covered as well. We use the most up to date machinery with the Soprano Ice Platinum laser machine being the main machine you would be using in the course. This machine allows for different treatments such as skin rejuvenation and hair removal therapy. This is a salon standard industry machine and would be the most widely used machine.

The distinct advantage is you already know how to use the technology and can step into a Laser Technician Role seamlessly. We also have 2 other machines as well as the Soprano ICE Platinum machine. To give students the chance to work and adapt to other machines. Generally, laser machines are very similar in their settings and hardware. Going back to the mobile phone example when using an android phone you will know how to work another model with a different screen layout right? Well, it is the same for Laser Machines. Same thing but different layout. In saying this though you can be assured you will be learning on the best.

7. WHAT NEXT?

After completing the course you will have the opportunity to advance onto the Level 5 Laser Tattoo Removal course which as an isolated industry is experiencing exponential growth in conjunction with the growing Tattoo industry (many regrets=many tattoo removals).

Otherwise, you are now a qualified Level 4 Laser Technician and with all other requirements met such as the Level 3 beauty qualification and the core of knowledge you will be able to work as skin rejuvenation or hair removal specialist.

We always recommend working in the industry for a minimum of 6 months to get a feel and knowledge about what is the best way for a laser technician to operate. Also learning how to run a successful Laser clinic and gain industry knowledge so you yourself can set up your own successful future in Laser Therapy. The annual wage for a laser technician is £25,000 with the potential to grow.

In terms of striking out on your own, the machinery is something to strongly consider. Does it have the support and will

Whatever you decide on you are in a prime position for industry to see exponential growth. Not just on the beauty side of things either! Medical laser treatments are becoming popular and more implemented.

With that, we hope that we have explained just some of the reasons why you should consider a future as a laser therapist and also considering why that future should start with us. Think of a future that’s bright and think of starting off in the right way with our Level 4 Laser & Ipl course.

What course is considered to be a professional course?

All of our courses are professional Level 2 and Level 3. You can do the 2-week MASA course to be qualified in bridal makeup artistry and beauty. Or you can do the more advanced level courses in fashion and media make up courses to qualify you in those areas.

Do I need to have hair styling to do this course?

You don’t need to but it’s strongly advised if you want to go into fashion and media if you want to style hair, so we do offer that on the course. The more you can do, the better. It’s not required, but it’s something we offer in our fashion and media courses.

What do I need to do TV and Media make up artistry?

You can study one of our three programs which will qualify you to work in TV and Media Makeup. MASA The Complete Pro MakeUp Designer Diploma runs over an 8 week period which runs back to back throughout the year,

Alternatively, you can do MASA The Complete Pro Makeup Designer Diploma course which includes an extension of Advanced Portfolio Development that in total runs over 12 weeks which is run twice a year.

If you’re looking for something shorter or are on a smaller budget, you can do the 4 week MASA Pro Make-up Artistry & Hair Certificate which provides foundation training.

Do I need a makeup kit for the course?

Absolutely not, everything is provided for you. But we do recommend you buy your own brushes. We do have a set of brushes which you can purchase from us as well as a brush cleaner and sanitising spray. Other from that, everything is provided on the course.

Will the course help guide me as a new freelance makeup artist?

Yes, we don’t just teach the practical side of makeup, we also talk about the industry, how to market yourself, how to invoice, how to be inspired, how to design – every aspect of makeup artistry is covered on the course.

Do I need to have done a previous course before I start?

No, complete beginners can join the MASA makeup course.
However, if you have done a basic makeup course at another establishment then you are eligible to go into our fashion and media makeup courses.

Do I need to have done hair styling?

No, you don’t need to have done hair styling as the course is focused on makeup artistry. We do offer a week of session hair styling. And in our advanced course, we do a week of advanced hair styling which is incorporated in the course mainly to enhance your makeup skills rather than become a hairdresser. It’s to compliment being a makeup artist.

Will I have help to get work after the course?

You will probably get work whilst you’re on the course! We strongly believe in work experience. There’s only so much that four walls in a classroom can teach you. So if there’s the chance for you to assist one of our guest lecturers then we will take you out of that classroom and put you straight into the working environment if we feel you’re ready for that. We also have an events team that we will automatically put you on once you’re signed onto the course which allows you to assist makeup artists.

We have passionate lecturers here who are really knowledgeable about their craft and who come from industry – you’re getting really relevant information and we are passionate about work experience so they’ll be able to take you on jobs with them without teaching you.

What do students go on to do after they graduate?

Students go onto work in bridal, fashion and media make up artistry. The events team really helps to launch their career. We have industry days where we talk about CVs, invoicing and how to market yourself. You get that one-to-one help from myself or another lecturer – we give that inside knowledge on how to start your own brands. If you buy into one of our courses, you’re really buying into your own company.

What are you waiting for? Call us now to find out more information about enrolling on the right course for you to get you started to pursue a career in the make up artistry world.

When did you start studying with us?

I started studying at LSBM in September 2017.

What course were you studying here?

I studied CIBTAC & CIDESCO Diplomas in Beauty & Spa Therapy. Shortly after I took the Oncology Touch Therapy Course by the Made For Life Foundation. I enjoyed my time studying at LSBM hugely.

Why did you choose LSBM?

I chose LSBM as I wanted to complete my CIDESCO diploma in both Beauty and Spa Therapy, which is an option, not all schools provide as they may not provide the Spa Diploma in addition to Beauty. I went to look around the school and loved the way it made me feel. All the staff were engaging and friendly, and I knew the class sizes were small to ensure learning could be to the highest standard. Having an on-site salon and spa was also a huge bonus for me, as I knew as a student it would give me experience in providing treatments and client care before working full-time.

Why did you choose this industry?

I chose the beauty/spa industry as I am a caring person who has always wanted to work with people. I believe that touch can be incredibly healing for someone, and to improve the way someone feels, no matter how short the treatment is can be incredibly rewarding. The industry is constantly developing new products/treatments, so you are always learning and developing your skills.

What was the best part of the course?

My favourite part of the course was during our CIDESCO Spa diploma when we learnt a new Eastern spa therapy. I chose Lava Shell massage. For our exam we had to decorate our area of the room and bed, however, we pleased, inspired by Eastern spas. It was fun to create a peaceful and beautiful setting to match our treatments.

What treatments do you like to provide and why?

I always enjoy providing facial treatments, as I love the way it makes the skin look and feels after, and how relaxed a client can become. I love learning about new products. I also love performing any holistic treatment such as hot stone massage or reflexology.

What advice would you give to someone looking to get into the industry?

Do plenty of research about the different courses and schools out there and which option works best for you. Look at what you will learn in the course and if you think you’ll enjoy it. Can you see yourself in that position? If possible, you could try getting some work experience to watch how the business operates, how the therapists and staff communicate with clients and how the treatments are performed. This will give you good insight. Also, be prepared about the theory- you will learn anatomy and physiology which is incredibly interesting, but does require you to put extra time into studying outside of school.

What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learnt?

The most valuable thing I learnt is how important connecting with a client can be. Put yourself in their shoes and be completely involved. Really understand what they’re expecting from the service and perform every treatment to your very best. Treat people how you would like to be treated. You also need to look after yourself, as you are giving to others all day.

What is your future career goal?

My future career goal is to become a senior/elite therapist and eventually a head therapist.

Where are you currently working?

I am currently working at Espa Life at Corinthia.

Thank you, Rosie, it sounds like you are on to a successful beauty career path!

BEAUTY THERAPY COURSES

MAKE-UP COURSES

OPEN DAYS

This week we interviewed Grace Wren who is studying part time with us whilst working two days a week in our commercial salon. Grace has studied her Level 2 Beauty Therapy Diploma with us and is currently studying her Level 3 course, and has now booked on to do our Level 4 Laser & IPL Treatments Diploma here at LSBM.

When did you start studying with us?

May 2018.

What are you studying with us?

I did the Level 2 Beauty Therapy Diploma full time, and now I’m doing Level 3 Beauty Therapy Diploma with Spa Treatments part time and I work here in the salon two days a week as well. I’ll also be studying Level 4 Laser and IPL Treatments here too.

Why did you choose LSBM?

I came to look round here with my mum and I really liked the feel I got from it. The fact the school has a commercial salon is really good and it gives you such good experience. For most jobs you need experience, but it’s so hard to actually get the experience when you’re starting out, but with LSBM courses you get that salon time so that’s a huge plus for me.

Why beauty therapy?

I wasn’t sure at first whether to do beauty therapy or make-up because I had an interest in both, but after looking around and hearing about all the treatments I thought beauty therapy was what I wanted to do. I also had in my mind I’d love to open my own salon so I thought I should learn all the treatments. I have a real interest in it, I love doing my eyelashes and having a spray tan and all sorts so I thought why not just learn it!

What is the best part of the course?

The salon experience – 100%. Doing the treatments in class is great and you learn everything you need but when you get to work on real paying customers that’s what the real world is all about.

What treatments do you like to provide and why?

Facials for sure! It’s really relaxing for the client and it’s just one of those feel good treatments. You can also see the results straight away, you come out and your skin is glowing. With some treatments you have to do a course to start to see results but with facials it’s straight away.

What advice would you give to someone who is looking to get in the industry?

If you love something and you’ve got an interest in it, you should just do it. You don’t know if you’re going to enjoy it until you try. When I quit my full time job to come here, that was a massive step and I didn’t know if I was going to like it but if you have to just go for it and try it. And now I love coming here – I really enjoy it!

What is the most valuable thing you’ve learnt?

Even if sometimes things go wrong and don’t go the way you want them to go, you can always try again. If you need extra help there is always someone there to help you and you should never be afraid of things. I used to be terrified of waxing, but now I’m doing it more and more I don’t mind it as much! You just need to keep at it.

What is your future career goal?

I think I’d like to work in a spa and then my end goal would be to own my own salon!

This week we interviewed Greta Bieliauskaite who is a Pro Therapist @ LSBM Salon & Spa. Greta studied Level 2 and 3 Beauty Therapy along with Level 4 Laser & IPL Treatments Diploma here at LSBM. Greta enjoyed studying with LSBM so much that she decided to stay on and work in our on-site commercial salon & spa as a Pro Therapist. Greta is now a valued member of the Pro Team and has been with us in the salon for 6 months.

Why did you decide to study Beauty Therapy?

I have always wanted to study beauty therapy, it really interested me as a career choice and I wanted a skill where I could progress and work in a range of jobs all over the world. I wanted to enter an industry where it wouldn’t feel like a job, and beauty is definitely a career where it doesn’t feel like that. The days go by so quickly as I really enjoy what I do.

What made you decide you wanted to study at The London School of beauty & Make-up?

I really did my research in trying to find the best beauty school in London, I visited all of them and LSBM really stood out in terms of large light classrooms, the commercial salon, and how friendly the staff were. I also read all the Google and Facebook reviews which helped me in my decision. I wanted a school with standards, where I was going to learn the treatments to the best of my ability, not a school where they would push you through in a short space of time and you would come out with a bad standard of treatment.

What was the best part of the course?

Every part was amazing, but the best part for me is how skilled, friendly and approachable all my tutors were as well as the office team. I did all the beauty levels in the school and had different teachers for each, who were all so knowledgeable in their particular specialism, it’s great to learn from different people and understand the journey they went on to get to where they are now.

What treatments do you like to provide the most and why?

My favorite treatments are electrotherapy facials and laser/IPL treatments because you can see the long-term effects, especially when clients return and they are so happy with the results! Laser & IPL treatments are definitely my favourite for hair removal and skin rejuvenation. The science behind the machines is really interesting and the effect that this has on the skin is really incredible.

What advice would you give to someone looking to get into beauty therapy and wanting to study at LSBM?

My advice would be that you have to perform every treatment from your heart, you can’t be tired or in a bad mood as the client will pick up on this energy; you have to be happy and positive at all times, this is how you get return clients and repeat business. Really listen to what the client is asking for in their consultation, and perform each treatment to the best of your ability. I would definitely still choose LSBM over any other beauty school, the standard that they teach to is far superior to any other beauty school, my friends on my course have all got jobs and gone into the work place at a higher level due to the excellent stand of treatment we are taught here at the school.

Visit each school and then make up your mind on where to study, some schools may be cheaper, but you may be in a tiny room with a class of 20, or you may be in a basement with no natural daylight. I would also check that the course they are offering is actually a qualification and not an in-house certificate, there are quite a few misleading schools out there!

You now work as a Pro Therapist in the LSBM Salon & Spa, what is the most valuable thing you have learnt, and what do you enjoy the most?

The most valuable thing which I have learnt is about client care and communication. Before I started this journey I thought that you just do the treatment and the client will be happy, however being a beauty therapist is about so much more than that. Clients come to you as a treat and to relax, there are so many salons out there, however they have chosen to come to you, and book in with you as a therapist; you need to provide them with the best experience possible, it’s about the little things from how you smile at them, how you greet them to how your hands make them feel and the energy which you pass on. The best feeling for me is a happy client, and when they come in to see me having had a bad day, then turning their mood around to being happy once they leave me is the best feeling.

What is your future career goal?

I would love to open my own business, create a wonderful team and exceed all client expectations with the range of treatments that are on offer.

What course did you study at LSBM?
I studied the intensive short course in Make-up application.

Why did you decide to choose LSBM to study?
I decided to choose LSBM as I had done a lot of research for beauty & make-up schools in London, however it kept coming back saying LSBM was one of the best in Europe and the UK. It had a great location and great reviews.

Would you recommend LSBM as a place to study Make-up or Beauty Therapy to other students?
Definitely

What has been your career path since leaving the school?
Since leaving LSBM, I gained myself a job working at the UK’s no.1 premium make-up and brow brand – Benefit Cosmetics. I worked there for two years before venturing out on my own and starting freelancing.

What is your area of speciality?
I would currently say my area of speciality is make-up! It’s the first service I was ever qualified in, and I have been doing it the longest, however I feel like I’m getting a lot stronger at bridal hair recently!

What do you enjoy the most about the industry and working as a therapist?
The thing I enjoy the most is how it doesn’t feel like ‘work’, or a ‘job’, I love what I do – it’s fun and rewarding, and I love the fact there are no limitations within this industry, you can be as creative as you like! I love to see my clients happy!

What has been your career highlight to date?
I would say I have a few career highlights to date, just the mere fact of pushing myself further all the time and continuously learning new things, and of course, working with 80’s pop star Tiffany!

You recently did the Make-up for 80’s star Tiffany Darwish on Good Morning Britain, can you explain the beauty and make-up routine you did for her TV appearance?
Tiffany asked for the ‘Natural, Sexy, Drew Barrymore look’, a gorgeous natural glow. I went through a good skincare routine with Tiffany prior to the make-up application. We used her own foundation which was Dior, followed by NARS ORGASM blush and a tan bronzer, finished with a nice HD setting powder. The eyes were kept simple but defined, using dark eyeliners and smokey shadows in the crease, topped with a lifting mascara, and of course Benefit’s brow products!

You now have your own business, tell us more about how you set this up and what treatments you offer?
I always knew I wanted my own business, I first started setting it up in 2015, it hasn’t been easy nor a quick process, but I am finally getting to where I want it to be! Since the launch a couple of years ago, I’ve also completed several more courses to add to my services, I now offer make-up, bridal and event hair, eyelash extensions, facial waxing and tinting, nail treatments, and wedding photography!
