In today’s blog, we sit down with our former makeup course student’s, Vanshika Dogra. Whilst at The London School of Beauty & Makeup, she studied our Advanced Diploma Makeup Course. Vanshika talks us through her experience at LSBM along with career aspirations.
The 8 Week Advanced Diploma in Makeup Artistry.
I wanted to get certified as a makeup artist and learn as a professional.
I had graduated with a bachelors degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. I came from a background of art but, chose to do journalism because I had still not discovered makeup artistry as a career choice .
Right now I am a freelance makeup artist as well as a makeup blogger.
Ten years from now I would really like to be a established beauty influencer as well as have my own makeup brand.
Yes my experience at LSBM and this course specially was great. This course was the perfect balance of learning basics as well as learning the more creative and SFX side too. The course was helpful in understanding how it is to work in the industry from the insights of our instructors who are well know members of the industry.
The instructors were very helpful and understanding. The working experience of the instructors helped in understanding things better. It was always fun to explore our creativity with help of our instructors. They were always welcoming to new ideas
Yes yes I would definitely recommend.
Yes, because my course was perfect for any person who wants to not only understand basics but, also delve into the creative side as well.
If the course was extend a little more. Maybe it was divided into more days so that the SFX parts weren’t rushed.
“I loved studying at LSBM that I wouldn’t mind staying for longer. “
A striking image created by Vanshika, combining a dark smoky eye with SFX on the model’s neck.
As mentioned, Vanshika studied our MASA Advanced Diploma – The Complete Makeup Artistry course, helps students build an advanced portfolio. Based on student feedback, we’ve altered the course length, now an intensive 10-week complete package.
At The London School of Beauty & Make-Up, our MASA Diploma is one of our bestsellers. A fully comprehensive foundation makeup course that will take you from a beginner to fully qualified makeup artist.

More often than not at The School of Beauty & Make-Up, prospective students will ask us, is a makeup course worth it?
With many free sources out there to learn makeup such as YouTube and Instagram, it is no wonder you might question the need for these courses. Whilst these platforms offer valuable tips and tricks, the formal training that many clients want is missing. Whether it’s practising on different skin types or having access to various products and brands, makeup schools offer many irreplaceable benefits.
In this blog post, we hope to highlight the benefits of a makeup school/course.
Read on to find out more about how a makeup course, could benefit you regardless of your experience.
As with any course you need to learn the basics and a makeup course is no different. Mastering the basics is essential before you can move on to extreme eyeshadow looks and special effects.
These basics are known as the Principles of Makeup, covering necessary knowledge, such as:
Once you’ve learnt the basics, it is essential to practice on different skin types. Clients can have oily, dry, acne-prone or even combination skin and, not all products will work on their skin type.
When learning how to do makeup with YouTube, you may only have your face or friends for practice. These skin types and even skin colours, may not be an accurate representation of the work you will have to carry out on future clients. Therefore, having access to different models and colleagues will enhance your skills.
Completing a makeup course at a reputable school will also offer you access to well-known brands. Inevitably limiting the amount of money that you spend building your kit as you know the products that work.
On an advanced makeup course, you are likely to try your hand at different makeup styles. These various looks help students to build an extensive portfolio.
Portfolios are a big part of makeup artistry and securing clients, comparable to how references work. Your portfolio is often a way to judge your quality of work. Potential clients can see previous work that you have completed and decide if you are the right artist for them. Having access to models on your course will also help you present a diversified portfolio.
Similarly to how you would want a doctor with qualifications is the same way clients want a qualified MUA. Clients are more likely to trust you and pay more if they know you have studied your trade.
Some qualifications can even be taken abroad and open you up to new adventures.
As a makeup artist, there are many routes available:
More often than not, before completing a course, students are stuck doing the same styles. A makeup course can encourage you to try new makeup styles that may ignite a newfound passion. You may decide that special effect (SFX) makeup is what you enjoy the most!
When practising makeup on yourself, it is easy to pick up bad habits! A makeup course will offer you access to an experienced makeup tutor who can point out these habits.
Fixing these habits early on will help your career, ensuring that you give clients the best service possible.
Here at The London School of Beauty & Make-Up, we are well known for our prestige makeup courses.
The courses that we offer are all accredited by the Make-Up Art Standards Authority (MASA). Students learn current industry practice and standards from the get-go, separating them from their competition.

It’s not often at The London School of Beauty & Make-Up that we introduce a new course! So it is with excitement that we introduce; our new VTCT Level 2 & 3 Combined Facials and Skin Care Course! This combination offers the ultimate facialist package.
According to Mintel, the facial and skin care industry has seen an increase since 2020. There are many factors that this increase could be down to:
Even at the London School of Beauty & Make-Up our most popular course in 2020 was VTCT Level 2 Facial Massage and Skin Care. The beauty industry as a whole remains popular and thriving, making it a lucrative sector to start a career in!
This course is perfect for those who want an intensive course that will allow them to become a facial and skin care expert! The Combined Facial Course runs for just 7 weeks on a part-time basis. The course covers all facial treatments that are taught in Level 2 & 3!
Students will learn the basics of facials which cover; theory of the skin, skin analysis, steaming, extraction and facial massages.
Then, moving on to electrotherapy facials. These facials are more advanced and would usually be taught, on our VTCT Level 3 Facial Electrotherapy course. Students at this point would practice with a variety of mechanical and electrical treatments for the face. Electrotherapy facials are growing more in-demand as technology advances. The popularity is down to the longer-lasting results.
On the course, students will also learn how to carry out client consultations. Client consultations help you to understand their skin concerns and lifestyle. In turn, ensuring you offer the most effective treatment and aftercare tips! Without these consultations, you wouldn’t be a very good facialist! These reasons make learning client consultations a very important aspect of the course.
Upon successful completion, of the Level 2 and 3 Combined Facials and Skin Care Course. You will be a fully qualified facial and skin care expert!
You can work in:
You may even decide that upon completion, you would like to expand your knowledge and skills. You can then undertake our Level 4 Laser & IPL course. With the Level 4 qualification, you can become a skin rejuvenation technician, upgrading the services you offer clients.

Here at the London School of Beauty & Make-Up, we are introducing a new series to our blog! Meet our tutors! In today’s blog, we have sat down with Krisztina, our beauty tutor and asked her all about her beauty background, experience and qualifications!
We understand that when considering a school, the tutors are a decisive factor. So we will be introducing you to some of our tutors over the next couple of weeks. Whether it’s their qualifications or experience, we hope to shed some light on what makes them the best tutors around.
I am a Level 3 Beauty Therapy tutor.
I’ve been in the beauty industry for 20 years and I’ve been teaching beauty therapy for 8 years.
Yes, I’ve always been interested in beauty and not just beauty, nails as well.
I used to see people doing beautiful nail designs and wanted to be able to do them myself, so I went and did the nail technician course. After I finished that, one of my friends went to do their beauty therapy and I thought why not! Now here I am.
So I’ve got my Level 2 and 3 nail technician and Level 2 and 3 Beauty Therapy along with my CIBTAC and CIDESCO. I also have Level 4 Laser and currently working on getting my Level 4 microblading!
I would say, I am very passionate about the holistic part of beauty, so massages and those kinds of treatments. Also, I am currently really into treatments that help aesthetics so peels, needling and fillers.
I chose to teach here because it’s such a good place to grow! I meet so many new students every year and get to watch them become experienced beauty therapists. I also really get along with my colleagues and working in the city is great.
Most of the time, I work 6 or 7 days so I don’t have the time for anything else.
I don’t have a favourite brand but I love anything that is all-natural and made from plants and herbs.
Are you interested in learning under Krisztina? Well, why not find out more about our Level 3 Beauty Therapy Diploma!
Here at LSBM, our VTCT Level 3 Beauty Therapy course is designed to provide you with one of the most desired beauty qualifications. In just 18 weeks, you would become a fully-qualified beauty therapist. Trained in facial and body electrotherapy treatments, balanced with holistic massage therapy.
In such a competitive market, experience is vital. We have the largest on-site commercial beauty salon of any beauty school in London, ensuring all of our students can professionally practice treatments on paying customers.
Laser hair removal and skin rejuvenation are becoming a more popular career path developing in the beauty industry. Many are now choosing to complete a laser training course. With this training, you can start a career as a Laser Hair Removal Technician or Laser Skin Treatment Specialist. This newly acquired skill will set you apart from other beauty therapists!
How to start and finish the path to laser therapy? Read on to see what a fully accredited Laser Course can do for you and your future.
More importantly, how The London School of Beauty and Make-Up’s Level 4 Laser & IPL Treatments Course can help get your career in laser therapy started. Answering why, how and what next?
Laser hair removal is an industry that will only increase in popularity, replacing temporary hair removal solutions like waxing. Laser hair removal offers a more permanent solution, meaning that when hair is gone with a laser, it is GONE. Just a few sessions with the laser and zap, it’s gone!
Laser skin rejuvenation helps with cosmetic treatments, offering visible results that will give the client confidence and clear, blemish-free skin.
The laser hair removal industry is predicted to see an annual growth rate of 15.2% reaching an estimated $1,400 Million by 2027 due to proficiency and success in preventing hair growth.
As with anything so technologically advanced, the success hinges on the advancements brought out with every new machine and laser technology is no different. 2020 has introduced many enhancements for laser therapy and the equipment’s offerings; Skin Rejuvenation, Laser Hair Removal, Tattoo Removal, Medical Treatments such as Mole Removals, Eye Treatments etc. The future of laser therapy has only begun.
As technology continues to advance, so do the risks and dangers involved. Incorrect use of the laser therapy machines can lead to burns and other skin damages on clients that could have easily been avoided with the correct comprehensive training. With that comes the need for a good quality provider of this training. The London School of Beauty and Makeup offers this in the form of the Level 4 Laser & IPL Treatments Course.
It’s simple; start a Laser Therapy Course!
Our VTCT accredited Level 4 Laser Course is set up as the course for qualified beauty therapists or practising nurses, who want to take that step into advanced aesthetics. From the theory of the course, knowledge on how to use the machines, best practices, consideration of the client and overall advice for entering the industry to seek employment or opening your own business you will leave knowing your trade and knowing your route into laser therapy.
The course runs on Mondays for 6 weeks and gives the opportunity for those working to attend on a part-time basis
Read on further to see some of the things The London School of Beauty and Make-Up offers that you may want to consider if you are looking for a laser therapy course in hair removal or skin rejuvenation.
In studying the VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Laser and Intense Pulse Light (IPL), you will have an advanced qualification that has been specially designed for beauty therapists or medical specialists who would like to become a qualified laser aesthetic technician. At The London School of Beauty and Make-Up, you will be completely insurable and employable when you enter into the industry upon completion of the course. That is because our laser courses are government regulated by Ofqual, who are in charge of determining what qualifications get the RQF stamp of approval. RQF stands for Regulated Qualification Framework, think of it as quality control to ensure that a qualification or course is rigorous and 100% fit for purpose.
VTCT is the awarding body and course provider of our Level 4 Laser Course, offering some of the best and most recognised beauty courses available. This has the added benefit of giving those who have completed the course the chance to move internationally.
To be eligible to sign on to the Level 4 Laser qualification you will need to look into acquiring a Level 3 Beauty qualification in order to practice as a Laser Technician. There are a few Level 3 qualifications that are accepted as you segway on to the Laser Treatments Course. The first is studying our Level 3 Beauty Therapy Diploma (Or Combined Beauty Therapy Diploma if you are just starting out your beauty therapist journey!), However, if you are wanting to specialise as a Laser Technician, the easiest route to take without learning all that the Beauty Therapy Diplomas have to offer is to study our Level 3 Facial Electrotherapy Course, along with a Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology Course. These courses will provide you with the perfect amount of knowledge and prerequisite skills to enrol on to a Level 4 Laser course.
We also offer the Level 3 Fast Track Course, a Saturday-only option, if your ambition is to get going as soon as you can.
Level 4 Tutor at The London School Of Beauty & Make-Up teaching 2 students IPL treatments using the LYNTON 650
The London School of Beauty & Make-Up has been established for over 25 years, a prestigious learning establishment for beauty and skin treatments. Our students are thoroughly prepared for their chosen future profession and taught based on industry demands and expectations. We never compromise on quality, causing students to choose us as their first choice for beauty, skin and makeup knowledge.
One of the most essential parts of any learning course is the tutor. As the first point of contact for students, it is important that they are experienced and hold the required knowledge to successfully deliver the course. Not only do we house some of the best tutors that the industry has to offer, they are also passionate about their career and the students they teach. Tutors will work hard alongside the school and students to ensure that classes are engaging, professional and beneficial for everyone.
Class sizes are kept small, with a maximum of six students in a class. Providing each student with sufficient one-on-one time with tutors and equipment, so that when you are finished with the course you are ready to join the laser hair removal industry.
The qualification is assessed practically, with testing consisting of students performing the treatments in front of their tutor. Tutors will ensure that the students are able to do the various treatments in a safe manner with the best techniques and practices. There will also be course materials provided, consisting of all the required and useful information needed to become a qualified laser hair removal technician for students to keep and refer back to whenever they need to.

At The London School of Beauty & Make-Up, we use the most up to date machinery; the Soprano Ice Platinum Laser machine (Diode) and LYNTON (IPL 585; 650 and Nd:Yag 1064). These machines allow for different treatments, such as skin rejuvenation and hair removal therapy. These are salon-standard industry machines and widely used throughout the industry, ensuring students are immediately ready to offer laser hair removal treatments as a Laser Technician and build their clientele.

After completing the course, you will have the opportunity to advance onto a Level 5 Laser Tattoo Removal course which as an isolated industry is experiencing exponential growth in conjunction with the growing Tattoo industry. Another option is to become employed as a Laser Technician at clinics such as SKN and Therapie Clinic.
Otherwise, you are now a qualified Level 4 Laser Technician and with all other requirements met such as the Level 3 beauty qualification and the core of knowledge, you will be able to work as a skin rejuvenation or hair removal specialist.
We always recommend working in the industry for a minimum of 6 months to get a feel and knowledge about what is the best way for a laser technician to operate. Also, learning how to run a successful Laser clinic and gain industry knowledge so you yourself can set up your own successful future in Laser Therapy. The average annual wage for a laser technician is £25,000 with the potential to grow.
With that, we hope that we have explained just some of the reasons why you should consider a future as a laser therapist and also considering why that future should start with us. Think of a future that’s bright and think of starting off in the right way with our Level 4 Laser & IPL course.
We have now announced our 2021 dates for our Level 4 Laser & IPL Treatments Course in January, with more to be announced soon. At The London School of Beauty & Make-Up, we are keeping in line and constantly updating our courses based on government guidelines which you can find out more about here.

You may be seeing more and more beauticians advertising on social media and wondering to yourself is beauty a good career for you? Maybe you’ve always had a passion for skincare or nails?
Well now is the perfect time to start pursuing a career in beauty!
Beauty therapy has always been a popular career path. However, we are seeing an increase in people going back to education to pursue a future in beauty therapy. As of 2019, the beauty industry was valued at $532 billion and is predicted to continue growing making it a lucrative industry to join.
The London School Of Beauty & Make-Up has been providing quality beauty therapy and makeup education since 1995. Which, we feel, makes us pretty knowledgeable on the subject and the perfect people to answer your questions! It also helps that if we get stuck on any questions, we have VTCT, CIDESCO & CIBTAC qualified tutors on hand!
As you can see above, the financial incentive is there! But there are many more reasons why pursuing a career in beauty is a good choice.
Maybe you have a young family that you need to be there for or a full-time job. A career in beauty can accommodate that. Many beauticians choose to work as freelancers offering their services after hours or even solely on the weekend. Beauty treatments can be carried out from the comfort of your own home. Some therapists do prefer a mobile service in which you can work out of your client’s home. A career in the beauty industry allows those working within it to choose what works best for them and their lives.
It can be very hard nowadays to find a job or industry that allows you to be as expressive as you might like. The beauty industry is not one of those! Being a nail technician encourages the use of your creative flair, combining stunning designs with loud colours!
It seems no matter the state of the economy, people are willing to invest in their hair, skin or nails. We all want to look good! This is seen reflected in the booming state of the beauty industry. Salons are growing and new beauty therapists are continuously entering the market. The knowledge you gain from studying within the beauty industry will stay with you for the rest of your life. Thus providing you with a career for life.
Have you heard the saying that there is no better therapy than sitting in your hairdresser’s chair? Well, it’s not, not true! Those working in the beauty industry provide happiness and relaxation to their clients. So if you enjoy conversing with people and making them feel comfortable, you might make an excellent beauty therapist!
As a beautician, everyday is different! Providing different treatments to different clients everyday. You get to discuss different subjects with every client. The more variety you can offer is also up to you! The more skills and knowledge you have increases the different treatments you can offer.
When choosing a career path within the beauty industry, there is no one size fits all. Everyone has different interests and skills which leads to different career paths within the industry.
Relieve their clients of any tension and pain in their bodies by massaging their muscles and soft tissues. They will also encourage their clients to relax, and improve their circulation. Clients are often those that have been afflicted with sports injuries, health conditions or just need some relaxation in their lives.
As a massage therapist you may specialise in different forms of massage which can include: Indian head massage or Swedish Massage.
To become a good massage therapist you should have great communication skills to be able to listen to your clients’ afflictions. A good understanding of anatomy and physiology to ensure you are not causing more harm than good.
In charge of bettering the appearance of their client’s eyelashes and eyebrows. An eyelash technician may offer lash extensions, eyelash tinting and lifting. An eyebrow technician can offer threading, waxing and even more advanced solutions such as microblading. These are career choices that are growing more popular with clients seeking out treatments that allow them to look perfect without make-up!
A steady hand is needed! Working with such a small area of the face and so close to the eye, it is necessary to be careful so as to not hurt your client. You should also be able to pay close attention to detail so you can achieve even outcomes. No-one wants uneven eyebrows!
They are in charge of the health and maintenance of their clients’ nails on their hands and feet. This will include providing manicures and pedicures, repairing damaged nails, adding nail extensions and creating intricate designs on the nails. Nail technicians can also provide their clients with hand and feet massages to increase their circulation. On average, women in the UK spend about £450 a year on their nails!
It is important to be creative and patient as a nail tech. Clients are coming for you to create something beautiful on such a small canvas so a steady hand is needed.
This is a career path that is growing more popular as technology advances. Well known treatments include: laser treatments such as hair removal and skin rejuvenation alongside chemical exfoliators. Advanced Aestheticians can help their clients with hyperpigmentation, acne and red vein removal.
Knowledge on the latest equipment is necessary as you need to be able to advise clients accurately. It is also detrimental to understand and differentiate the various skin problems that exist.
They are a combination of all the above and have a comprehensive understanding of all things beauty! From facials, pedicures, massages, waxing and electrotherapy treatments. Beauty therapists are experts at most things face and body related.
It is important as a beauty therapist to be customer orientated and attentive to detail. You should also be able to think on your feet as clients can come to you about different issues.
Depending on the career path that most interests you, would help determine the course that is best for you.
If you are interested in going down the massage therapist route, we would recommend:
On the course students will be taught body massages as a module covering Swedish Body Massage and Indian Head Massage. This will enable you to enter the beauty industry as a massage therapist once your studies have finished.
If your goal is to become a Lash or Brow technician then why not consider The VTCT Level 2 Beauty Therapy Diploma? On the course you will learn how to complete patch tests on your clients. This is to limit allergic reactions and any problems occurring! Eyelash and eyebrow tinting and perming techniques will be taught. Finally, you will learn how to shape eyebrows and how they can compliment your clients face. Students will be taught all the latest techniques which will put them in the forefront of a popular career path.
